Because, yes, you can get skin cancer there too.

If the summers of my childhood could sing a song, it’d be my mother repeating a chorus of “Did you put on sunscreen?” followed by “But did you really put it on everywhere?” The bridge of this tune would come later in the day with her panicked “Where’s the sunscreen?!” (It’s in your hand, Mom.)

But, as many things moms say, it actually stuck. Southern women deal with the hot, humid summers in the South with a little help from big sunglasses, floppy hats, and lots of sunscreen. Eventually, we’re also let in on the secret that SPF should be worn daily, if you want your skin to look baby soft—and not reptilian—at age 30. The things you know.

There’s always room for more ways to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, and we’ve recently been introduced to our new favorite summer-ready SPF add-on: Supergoop! Shimmershade SPF 30, the industry’s first-ever SPF eye shadow.

Supergoop!, a skincare company that exclusively specializes in sun protection, launched this new eye-focused product to further protect your eyelids from UV damage, but it includes a fabulous twist. The product comes in four shimmery shades—ranging from golden champagne to peachy bronze to chocolate brown—to make you feel like a glowy SPFed mermaid.

You can snag these shimmering SPF bombs on Supergoop!’s website here and at Sephora here.

According to the experts at Supergoop!, around 5% to 10% of skin cancers are found around the delicate eye area. Sun damage is a direct source of accelerated aging, too, which means your skin will look younger and healthier if you get ahead of the SPF game.

“The skin on the eyelids is the thinnest skin on the body, making it even more susceptible,” says Dr. James M. Krell of Total Skin & Beauty Dermatology Center in Birmingham, Alabama. “Always remember that people can get a fair amount of sun damage from reflection of the sun off of the sand and the water, which is why shade and sunscreen are so important.”

For those spending long days at the beach or lake this summer, Dr. Krell recommends wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and SPF 30 or higher. He also notes that the area on the upper cheek just below the lower eyelid is where many cases of eye-related skin cancers are seen.

And if you’re skipping the hat, make sure to shield up with Supergoop!’s second launch this month: Poof Part Powder, a 100% mineral-based SPF 45 for your hair and scalp. The non-aerosol nozzle allows powder to be sprayed directly at the roots and on your part. In one fell swoop, you’ve avoided a burned scalp and refreshed your hairstyle. Win-win?
