We've been fans of North Carolina-based clothing line Southern Frock, and its owner/designer Emily Newnam (pictured below), since the label debuted in 2010. Since that time their flirty cotton dresses have appeared in Southern Living on more than one occasion, most recently in our January 2013 issue. We are, therefore, beyond excited that starting this week select looks from Southern Frock's spring collection will be stocked at Belk department stores. That's right, there alongside dresses from the likes of Trina Turk, Lilly Pulitzer and Michael Kors will be designs from a company with true Southern roots.

Southern Frock's Belk-debut is part the department store's inaugural Southern Designer Showcase. Last year, the Charlotte-headquartered retailer went on a hunt for the South's most talented fashion and accessories designers to spotlight in its 300-plus stores, which span from Texas to Maryland. In their push to highlight the style renaissance taking place right here in our region, the 125-year old store has given Southern designers a sizable platform to expose their work. Yep, Belk has made it their mission to show that Southern style is on par with the work coming from New York and L.A. (We love that.)

Nearly 200 apparel and accessories lines applied, but only a select 15 were chosen for the final Southern Designer Showcase. As with Southern Frock, the other 14 lines will have select items from their Spring 2013 collections available to purchase in Belk brick and mortar stores as well as online through April.

Here are a few of the other Southern labels were excited to check-out in stores:

Rowen Footwear, Charleston, South Carolina. Designer Blake Vaigneur has hip footwear to help the modern Southern woman put her best foot forward. P.S. They're comfortable to boot (and pump and wedge).

Faith Thornburg, Savannah, Georgia. This SCAD graduate specializes in ethereal, bespoke wedding gowns. For a listing of her Belk trunk shows visit here. By the way, when we say trunk show we mean she'll actually sketch a one-of-a-kind wedding dress for you there on the spot.
