Our Favorite Golden Globe Dresses Of Years Past
It’s that time of year again—soon the red carpet will be rolled out and celebs will be strutting their stuff in gorgeous gowns for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards. Since the awards ceremony began in 1944, these stars have been going all out in their best designer pieces to watch, wow, present, and—for the lucky few—give an acceptance speech. And in the last fifteen years, the red carpet runway show has become almost as important as the awards themselves. In honor of the 2017 ceremony, we’re taking a look back at our favorite styles from Southern celebrities.
Southern belle, Reese Witherspoon never fails to both look lovely posing for the cameras and scoop up her fair share of notoriety. Pictured here in 2015 in custom Calvin Klein metallic beaded strapless number, she claimed a Best Actress nomination in a Motion Picture Drama for Wild. In 2009 she took home the win for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk The Line and also has two additional nominations on her record.
Presenter for the 2011 ceremonies and Memphis-native, Megan Fox did not disappoint when showed up on the red carpet in this pale pink Armani Prive gown.
This Texas beauty brought the “it” factor to the after party too in deep V-neckline white gown, following the 72nd annual awards.
We can’t get enough of Austin-born Amber Heard’s pink and red floral-embellished Gucci gown. It’s ethereal, romantic, and deserving of an award itself.
We’re going to credit Jennifer’s Southern upbringing in West Virginia for her timeless style. It just doesn’t get more classic than this strapless red cinched waist gown she wore in 2013.
Making an entrance is one thing. Also making a dramatic exit—quite another. And that’s exactly what the Corpus Christi, Texas native did at the 68th annual awards in this black Zac Posen gown with a cutout back.
One can’t go wrong with an LBD, especially accessorized with a little bit of bling like Katy, Texas born Renee Zellweger wore here. She also didn’t forget a Southern girl’s best accessory—a healthy allover glow.
Queen B certainly looked like royalty on the red carpet of the 66th annual Golden Globes in 2009. We love her champagne colored, and curve hugging gown almost as much as wel love her music.
This starlet who spent most of her childhood between North Carolina and Florida looks stunning in this eye-catching one shoulder gown at the 2015 ceremony.
In 2009 all eyes were on this Florida-born beauty as she stunned in this show-stopping white gown and turquoise collar necklace.
Louisville Native, Jennifer Lawrence, was a fashion critic’s favorite on the 2016 Golden Globes red carpet. We agree she’s stunning. But what’s better? She’s ever oozing Southern charm.
Though Viola Davis wore this sophisticated Merlot-colored chiffon gown in 2012, we could see it working just as well today. In true Southern fashion, she opts for timeless style.
Decked out in dark green, born in Greenville, and making us green with envy, this South Carolina native inarguably has a color theme.
Alabama born Octavia spencer looked ultra feminine in soft lilac chiffon as she accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress in the Mississippi-set film, The Help in 2012.
One of our favorite country stars and Oklahoma-native Carrie Underwood, stunned in a sparkly Badgley Mischka strapless number at the 2011 ceremony.
Evan Rachel Wood
The Raleigh native looks stunning in a multi-hue green and black number with the trifecta of evening gown elements—chiffon, sequins, and feathers.
When a girl can look great even in the rain, we’re calling her a style icon. Memphis native Ginnifer Goodwin did just that in cerulean blue and umbrella in hand.
Glee star and Savannah born Dianna Agron, was gorgeous on the 2012 red carpet in a lace number.
