This Is the Exact Product Lineup That Made Me Look 5 Years Younger in Minutes
I went to a Tata Harper event recently at Birmingham-based skincare and cosmetics boutique Beauté Therapie. Just 24 hours prior I was hooked up to an IV due to dehydration. Before you ask, yes, I was cleared to reenter society prior to attending the event. What was clearly not okay to make a public appearance was my skin. The hot mess express pulled up to the station that morning—dry and dull are understatements. At the start of the event, a representative from Tata Harper measured the skin hydration level of each guest, myself included, using a handheld meter (similar to this one). It came as no surprise that out of the 15 or so women in the room I had the most parched skin, coming in at a thirsty 27.6. The optimal range is 32 to 45. There was work to be done.
The master class was designed to take an in-depth look at the Tata Harper product line. We walked through a six-step skincare process, starting with cleansing. From the start, I saw changes in my skin, but the real magic came at the end with a 10-minute mask. Here’s the exact product formula I followed to get the most glowing skin I’ve had in five-plus years—definitely since I started the sleepless-night circus known as parenthood. Oh, and that hydration number? Well it jumped nearly 20 points.
Step 1: Nourishing Oil Cleanser + Resurfacing Mask
This step was therapeutic in itself. If you want the key to taking the chore out of washing your face, we have a hint for you: Make it a luxury. I applied a pump of Nourishing Oil Cleanser directly to dry skin, massaging it in a circular motion, adding water when needed to give it just a hint of creaminess.
Now this is where I’m really bringing the insider info. The next step is to layer the Resurfacing Mask directly on top of the Oil Cleanser. I know it sounds a little crazy, but go with it. Leave it on for five minutes before gently wiping clean with a warm, damp cloth. Luxury skin, delivered. If you want to invest in one product, my vote goes for the Resurfacing Mask. While all the products we featured here are standouts in their categories, the Resurfacing Mask might get you the most impact for the price point—and it definitely will go a long way with your morale. There’s something about taking time for an early morning face mask that can really start one’s day off on the right foot, no?
Step 2: Hydrating Floral Essence
In order to give your serums and moisturizers the best chance to truly hydrate your skin, it’s imperative to use an essence or toner prior. The Tata Harper rep likened it to trying to sop up a spill with a bone-dry sponge. It doesn’t hold a candle to the work a dampened Scotch-Brite can do.
Step 3: Concentrated Brightening Serum
I didn't apply this to my face, but it is absolutely worth a mention—and here's why: I applied a pump on the back of my hand as we were learning about the importance of not skipping the essence step. The serum went on unremarkably. Hours later when I was back at my desk hammering away at the keyboard, I looked down and noticed my left hand looked like a magic pen had erased all the usual fine lines. It took a minute to dawn on me that the Concentrating Brightening Serum was the hero here.
Note: While Tata Harper products come with luxury price tags, this serum will really cost you ($295). We never want to pressure you into buying products—especially products that are out of budget. You can age gracefully without this (or any) product. Aside from SPF, you should definitely slather that one on.
Step 4: Crème Riche
I’m about to drop another beauty truth on you: You’ve been applying your moisturizer and oils wrong. It seems like a no-brainer to put your oil on first, then follow up with the heavy stuff. Wrong. Applying the luxurious Crème Riche first, followed by oil, actually allows both products to penetrate into the derma. An oil essentially blocks the moisturizer from getting in, if you apply first. Thanks to this little tidbit, I learned nearly my entire skincare process has been for naught up until two weeks ago. Perfect.
Step 5: Beautifying Face Oil
This stuff will really take your complexion over the edge. I applied it as the final step in our tour de Tata and, let me tell you, I did not need a hint of makeup. I wore my fresh skin out of the store proudly back to my office where I haven’t appeared without makeup probably ever. And this, once again, just hours after my minor health crisis with major complexion repercussions.
