A good eye cream can make all the difference. Serums are great, and masks are always high on my list when a self-care moment is in order, but a hardworking cream that can work both day and night is an illusive creature. It has to be serious enough to make things happen around the clock, but also foster a smooth canvas for makeup application. Peter Thomas Roth’s new Vital-E Microbiome Age Defense Eye Cream fits the bill.

Vital-E is a new collection from the clinical skin care brand that both repairs past damage and helps prevent future damage. It utilizes the anti-trifecta: anti-aging, anti-pollution, and anti-blue light.

Dry, sensitive skin, rashes, and breakouts—if you’ve seen these symptoms then you might have a compromised skin barrier. Microbiome Age Defense Eye Cream works to restore the lipid barrier that helps skin retain moisture, and we all know moisture is the number one factor when it comes to maintaining healthy looking skin. After just a few weeks of use, I almost didn’t recognize the glowy, rested-looking face staring back at me from the mirror. After substantial research on what exactly was to thank, I landed on a restored skin barrier and the subsequent increased luminosity (bye-bye, dullness) that came along with it.

With a restored skin barrier, the next step is to prevent future damage. Gamma E Antioxidant Technology calls on both probiotic and prebiotic ingredients to block pollution and blue light damage while reducing noticeable signs of aging—fine lines, crow’s feet, loss of elasticity, etc. When you swipe this cream on, it has a balm-like consistency that melts into the skin. It gives you the feeling that skin will just stay where you put it. I find myself applying Vital-E Eye Cream as if with each swipe I’m permanently blurring out those lines and crow’s feet. Many of them really have reduced in appearance if not gone away altogether.

As mentioned, the texture might get you at first. It’s a solid (pink!) formula that you melt with your fingertips before applying under the eyes. After I discovered just how gentle this cream is, I actually started applying it all around my eye up to my brow as well. It doesn’t shift, drip, or transfer once it’s placed. As long as you apply the appropriate amount you don’t have to worry about it sneaking into the corners of your eyes and causing irritation.

If you like to sink your teeth into a good long customer review board, like I do, take a scroll through Sephora’s 500-plus comments which have garnered a collective 4.4 star rating. My favorite post came with the subject line: “WOW! Big results!!!” The reviewer went on to write, “This is so creamy and smooth, yet it sinks into my skin so quickly and leaves such a soft, glowy feel. I have found my Holy Grail eye cream!!!!!”

Same, sister.
