Here's How To Make A Homemade Honey-Oatmeal Face Mask
The key to glowing skin could be sitting inside your pantry.
We're all after glowing skin, and are willing to try out creams, serums, and toners to achieve that healthy shine. Face masks are a great way to hydrate your skin, but can get a little pricey. Why not take advantage of the ingredients that you've already got in your cupboard? Alabama-based blogger Heather Brown of My Life Well Loved came up with a three-ingredient face mask recipe that'll have you relaxing in your home spa every night of the week. The recipe is simply, easy, and nourishing for your skin.
Before you begin, start with a clean face. Your skin should be primed, prepped, and ready to go – no makeup needed. Next, gather your ingredients. Heather used about 1/2 cup of oats, and then mixed in a teaspoon of raw honey. The third ingredient you'll need is hot water. Start with a teaspoon or so, and stir up the oat-honey mixture until it forms a paste. If you would rather have a more consistent texture, you can grind up the oats before adding in the honey and water.
"So, the benefits of using this honey-oatmeal mask are that the oatmeal is really soothing and calming to your skin. When you use raw honey, it actually is a really great antifungal," Heather says. "It also is soothing."
And, why not pair a little relaxation alongside your face mask? "I usually do ten minutes if I'm in a hurry, but if I really want to have a relaxing, enjoying soak in the bath, then I'll even put some of the oats in the bath, read a book, light a candle, and make it a whole spa-like experience." You may want to try a hair mask while you're at it, too, to nourish your strands.
After ten minutes, use a damp towel to gently remove the oatmeal mixture. Gently, Heather emphasizes: "Now, remember that you do not want to press down too hard because it does actually pull down on your skin. And, when it pulls down on your skin, you're creating more of those wrinkles and fine lines; and nobody wants that."
You'll be pleased with the end results, for sure – this mask from My Life Well Loved leaves your skin hydrated, glowing, and clear. So, the next time you've got a few minutes to spend on yourself, crack open your pantry door for a little face mask inspiration.
