MAC's Cult-Coveted Red Lipstick Is One of Pinterest's Most-Searched Products of the Year
As if we needed more convincing to "add to cart."
If you’ve ever felt validated about one of your beauty choices, you know there’s no better feeling. It could be a compliment from a total stranger on your new block-heel booties, pastel-pink nail color, or caramel-kissed highlights—the confidence boost is unmatched.
Well that’s how it felt when Pinterest released its 2019 holiday shopping report, which rounded up some of the most-searched terms of the year to create a crowd-sourced gift guide of sorts. What made the beauty list? None other than a cult-classic shade of Bordeaux red lipstick that’s been on our hit list for awhile: MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva.
According to Pinterest’s data, searches for MAC’s iconic lipstick, particularly in the vampy Diva shade, are up 153%. If you’re not familiar, this matte lipstick formula is basically what put MAC Cosmetics on the map when it was first introduced in 1980s (and gained major street cred after Madonna wore it for a photo shoot and, later, on her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour).
Certain shades, like the classic Ruby Woo red and the dark Diva red, need not be introduced in most circles; the best eyes can discern these popular shades upon first glance. Their calling cards are the true matte finish and insanely poignant color that rests inside each black bullet-shaped tube.
Diva is a somewhat warm-toned, intense Bordeaux red. (Imagine OPI’s beloved Malaga Wine nail color, and you’ve got it.) Women who love to have a lipstick moment are drawn to the striking red-wine color like impeccably dressed moths to a flame, if the flame were the nearest Ulta. And while it is particularly suited to the winter months, be it so vampy, we know plenty of belles who like to keep it in the mix year-round.
One reviewer on the brand’s website dubbed it her go-to red, saying “I'm never going to get tired of this lipstick...Regardless of the event, the season, the occasion, this color has never let me down.” You can shop the shade here.
To apply, start with a hydrating primer, such as MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip, and then line your lips with MAC’s Lip Liner in Vino to ensure the best canvas. For more tips on making your red lipstick last all day, check out this handy guide.
