As someone with oily hair, I am always looking for the best new products to keep my hair as clean as possible, without washing it every day. I hate the feeling of washing my hair only to dry it and feel like it’s dirtier or more weighed down than before I washed it. Charcoal has been introduced to more and more beauty products in the past several years with claims that products with activated charcoal help to remove dirt, oil, and impurities from hair and skin. In the past I have used a sample of Drybar On The Rocks Clarifying Charcoal Shampoo and loved it, but it's a bit of a splurge and not something I keep in my regular routine for that reason.

I was so excited when I first started seeing the new Pantene line that included a charcoal-based shampoo and conditioner, since it’s a more affordable drugstore brand. One day, while running an errand on my lunch break, I saw it on the shelf and decided it was time to give it a try. I was impressed after just the first wash. The shampoo, which they refer to as a purifying root wash, left my hair really clean and there was no trace of excess oil or product buildup left in my hair. I must admit that with oily hair, I usually don’t use much conditioner, for fear that it will cause excess oiliness, but this formula is called a renewing cream rinse. It leaves my hair feeling soft and tangle-free without adding unwanted buildup.

You can get a set of the 17.9 oz. shampoo and conditioner for just $19.99 on Amazon. I also love that they use pumps, so it’s easy to get the product out, and won’t spill out in your shower. The formula is also gentle enough to use every day, unlike some cleaning shampoos that are made to use just one a week. If you’ve been wanting to try a charcoal-based cleanser, this budget-friendly option won’t disappoint.
