Perfect color in just one swipe
My alarm went off at 5:45 a.m. yesterday. I had a toddler (and husband) to get dressed and out the door in time for church at 8:30, floors that needed one more quick vacuum before company arrived, a full Easter dinner to get on the table by mid-afternoon, plastic eggs to hide in the yard, and enough Easter cheer to go around.
I admitted beauty defeat, knowing by the time the brunch hour hit I would be looking a bit withered. Smudged mascara, faded lipstick, flat hair, and a shiny t-zone could spell beauty disaster on marathon days but, luckily, I've mastered their quick remedies. The same cannot be said of smudged, creased, and smeared eye shadow—call it my kryptonite.
Up until last week, I had yet to find a shadow that stayed put and crease-free for more than a few hours, particularly when paired with our Southern heat and humidity. And, to that fact, Easter day did not disappoint with highs hovering near 80. Yesterday, as I chased little ones around the front yard trying to catch the perfect photo, I was sure I would look worse for wear by the time I found myself in front of a mirror.
It wasn’t until 7 p.m. that I finally slowed down long enough to catch my reflection before taking off the day’s war paint. I could not believe what looked back at me: eye shadow, exactly where it should be.
The Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24) that I had quickly swiped on before dawn was just as I left it. It hadn’t slid off my lids, smeared in the corner of my eyes, or creased at all.
It went on smooth (not at all sticky) and stayed put for more than 12 hours—without the help of primer or any other longevity booster. All it took was just one coat of “Starlight,” a shimmery champagne color that works with just about every spring dress I have in my closet.

Needless to say, I will be investing in more of these little tubes of wonder come Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Every hostess needs a little secret helper, and this just might be mine.
