Eye cream, who?

From Jackie Kennedy’s must-have toner to Marilyn Monroe’s three-hour Vaseline baths, vintage beauties had all sorts of tricks for keeping their complexions looking dewy and bright.

As far as old-school beauty icons go, they don’t get much bigger than Italian actress Sophia Loren. One of the most recognizable faces of Hollywood's Golden Age, the seemingly ageless Loren has spent the past seven decades in the spotlight.

You can imagine our delight when we learned that one of her go-to tricks for dark circles is available at the grocery store. In fact, you might already have some in your refrigerator. Her secret for camera-ready eyes? Mint leaves!

According to the Daily Mail, during her heyday in the 1950s and ‘60s, Loren would crush up mint leaves to create a paste and apply it under her eyes. The cooling sensation reportedly alleviated bags and prevented dark circles. From a scientific standpoint, mint leaves are very high in vitamin C, which stimulates the production of collagen, making under-eye skin firmer and thicker.

But Loren’s edible skincare hacks don’t stop there. The now 88-year-old screen siren also credits her ageless beauty to loads and loads of olive oil. Not only does she consume the Italian staple as part of her Mediterranean diet, she also routinely rubs a small amount into her skin to keep it looking glossy and moisturized. Loren will even drizzle olive oil into hot bath water and then soak in the mixture, letting it nourish and soften her skin.

Brb, we’re going to the grocery store.
