IT Cosmetics' New Hydrating Lipstick Is a Wonder for Mature Lips
The idea of a matte lipstick is great, in theory. The visions of dry, cracked lips, and fading color? Not so much. What about a glossy finish? Also great in theory, but when it starts feathering into lip-lines, transferring to teeth, or leaves a gloopy feeling, suddenly we’re not so enthused. IT Cosmetics has us seeing the bright side of lipstick thanks to their new line, Pillow Lips. It’s a collection of 14 shades each featuring skin care-inspired ingredients that will finally give your pout something to smile about.
Anti-aging skin care ingredients are everywhere. Body washes, makeup foundation, even hair care products are calling on heavy hitters like hyaluronic acid and collagen to deliver major results. IT Cosmetics has been on this bandwagon for a while with a product range that’s packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and the like. Now to their ever-expanding collection of cosmetic-skin care hybrids is Pillow Lips Collagen-Infused Lipstick ($24; sephora.com), a collection designed to help women feel more confident about their smile.
Pillow Lips launched with 14 shades, each of which is offered in both matte and creamy formulas—three cheers for that. There’s nothing worse than finding your ideal color only to discover it's not offered in your finish of choice.
The lipsticks call on collagen to mask lip lines—instead of drawing them out like some formulas are wont to do. Both finishes coat lips in moisture thanks to a tri-oil complex that includes jojoba oil, sesame seed oil, and peppermint oil. All of these skin-loving ingredients are great but these days you can often find higher-end balms with a similar ingredient list. What you can’t get in a balm or mask? One-swipe, long-lasting color.
I’ve been wearing Pillow Lips in Cream Marvelous all week. My hand is trained to automatically apply three coats of lipstick with each application, but over the past few days I’ve found myself stopping at just one. The reason I’m a triple-coating queen is because my lips are naturally a bit parched, which means they don’t take to color quite as easily. When IT Cosmetics claims that Pillow Lips wraps lips in moisture, they’re not kidding. You can absolutely get similar moisture from a good balm, but I haven’t found a more impactful lipstick with the bonus of treatment-level ingredients.

Each shade is designed to work with every skin tone and lip type—it all comes down to a matter of preference. I tend to gravitate toward shades of pink like Marvelous (subtle rose), Wish List (raspberry), Wink (coral), and even 11:11 (hot pink), when I’m feeling daring. If you’re going after a pretty true red, you might find a winner in Stellar. Oh, and don’t you neutral gals worry, they’ve got you covered with Vision (peach nude), Wistful (dusty rose), Humble (nude cinnamon), and Serene (terracotta brown).
