With a few well-placed products, your face will say vacation even if your schedule says busy.
This time of year, it’s easy to tell who has been lounging on the beach on 30A and who has, well, not. If your summer is more crazy busy than fizzy with glasses of sparkling rose, you’re not alone. Summer is the Southern Living staff’s busiest time of year as we plan, write, shoot, and produce our Thanksgiving and Christmas issues. We too rock the harried, humid look often.
But we’ve also found ways to fake a Gulf getaway glow when we want to look more fresh than fried. These five products make for easy ways to look like you’ve been sitting by the waves without the damaging effects of the sun to your skin or plane ticket prices to your budget.

If you’re looking for a product to mix into your moisturizer for an all-over tan, Drunk Elephant’s newest serum not only imparts a very believable shade of golden goddess but also contains a potent mix of fatty acids and antioxidants, which keeps your skin looking hydrated and luminous.
Our favorite under-the-radar brand’s new Moon Sticks have been in heavy rotation this time of year since they’re silly simple to apply, even in the car on the way from the office to a porch get-together. Charon provides a bronzed tone while the peachy tone of Moon Beam adds a soft highlight without the silvery or glittery look of other luminizers.
NARS The Multiple has been a universal staple for actually decades now, but the matte version of this lip-eye-cheek color in Cappadoce (a burnt sienna brown) creates the most natural looking depth and warmth with the staying power of a professional-level product.
In ultra-portable, oil paint inspired tubes, Glossier’s affordable cream blush makes experimenting with colors beyond your typical shades easy. A little bit of this gel-formula goes a long way even though it imparts a sheer stain. For deeper complexions, their newest colors storm, a rosy brick red, and dawn, a saturated coral, make for a brighter, bolder look than the more muted, earthy blush and bronzers.
Don’t sleep on this drugstore diamond. While the formula may look scary holographic out of the tube, once you blend it into moisturizer or foundation, it takes on a more organic opalescence. Our favorite shade is Rose, which also provides a universal color correction that adds a just-ran-through-a-sprinkler ebullience to a wide range of skin tones.
