Southern ladies love a good pop of color. That's why we've been hard at work trying to find the best pink lipsticks for every skin tone. To help us with our exhaustive hunt, we tapped Birmingham, Alabama-based makeup guru and eyebrow fairy godmother, Angela King. While we set out to find best pink lipstick shade for every complexion, King—master that she is—ended up finding the one universally flattering pink shade that works on everyone, and we mean everyone. It's none other than Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Wood on Fire (214).

Last week, King did a bit of an experiment with her loyal client base; she applied Wood On Fire to every pout that walked through her door. Whether her skin tone was fair, medium, or dark; whether her eyes were brown, blue, green, or hazel; and whether her hair was blonde, brown, or silver; one thing was certain: This stick looked good on everyone. King credits the neutral-pink tone for its universal appeal, while we credit it pretty gold packaging for adding a bit of much-needed flair to our vanities.

The matte finish of this lipstick is something King admits she tries to avoid when working with mature lips, though she didn't experience any issues with YSL's version. For the best application, King does advise all clients (regardless of age) to prep lips with a bit of moisturizing lip balm before application.
