Romantic comedies are making a comeback.

Romantic comedies are one of Hollywood’s oldest and most beloved genres, and audience affection for these films has recently rekindled. Here are the five highest grossing rom-coms of the past decade.

Garry Marshall gathered an ensemble of stars for 2010’s Valentine's Day. Starring the likes of Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, and Anne Hathaway, this holiday-based blockbuster brought in $110.5 million.

It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin, showed that boomers can have love triangles too. 2009 audiences were charmed to the tune of $112.7 million.

Silver Linings Playbook earned Oscar gold for star Jennifer Lawrence. It also earned a ton of gold at the box office, grossing $132 million throughout its award-winning run.

2009’s Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds vehicle, The Proposal, was a massive hit for its day. Signaling that there was still money for this struggling genre, the movie grossed $164 million, with a small assist from Betty White.

2018’s Crazy Rich Asians was the highest-earning rom-com since 2002’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The film became a worldwide phenomenon and brought in $174.5 million in the U.S., proving that romantic comedies are making a comeback.

With Hollywood investing in new films like Isn’t it Romantic and Last Christmas, the rom-com renaissance shows no sign of waning in 2019.
