Mark your calendars, because the detective drama Grantchester is returning to PBS this summer. If you’re familiar with the British mystery series starring James Norton, read on. If not, start at the beginning—episode one of season one—and then come back to us when you’re finished.

Up to speed? Excellent. According to PBS, “Grantchester Season 4 premieres Sunday, July 14, 2019, 9/8c on MASTERPIECE, and returns with a new vicar.” This is the last season in which James Norton (War & Peace, Death Comes to Pemberley), who plays Anglican vicar and amateur detective Sidney Chambers, will appear. Season four will fill Norton's absence by adding several new characters to the cast, including a brand-new central character played by Tom Brittney. According to PBS, “Tom Brittney joins the cast as Reverend Will Davenport—man of the people and crime-solving partner to Robson Green’s Geordie Keating in 1950s Grantchester.”

Brittany previously appeared on Outlander and Call the Midwife, and in season four of Grantchester, he will play a vicar-turned-detective, much like Chambers, the character James Norton is retiring. Jemma Redgrave (Bramwell, Love & Friendship) is new to the series this season too, and she will play Amelia, the mother of the new vicar Will Davenport. You can see a glimpse of the new season in the season four preview below.
