Exciting News: Dynasty is Coming Back to Television
If you watched television in the '80s you know that the Hatfields and the McCoys had nothing on the Carringtons and the Colbys. Now, their glamorous feud is about to be reignited, because Dynasty is being rebooted.
The creators of Gossip Girl Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are bringing the flashy ‘80s soap opera to the CW, according to Deadline. To give their new project cred, they have help from the original Dynasty creators, the husband and wife team Esther and Richard Shapiro.
The show will once again revolve around the drama that comes with being beautiful and rich, as the two families fight over love, money, chauffeurs, fur coats, and the correct placement of fish knives. This time, though, the story will be told from the perspective of two women at the center of all the drama—Fallon Carrington (played by Elizabeth Gillies), the daughter of billionaire Blake, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal. While Linda Evans played Krystle in the original version, the new show will star The Vampire Diaries' Nathalie Kelley and that subtle name change is completely intentional.
As for who Cristal will fight in the Carrington mansion lily pond, well, that's still to be determined as the show hasn't cast the wonderfully villainous Alexis yet. It's hard to imagine who can possibly step into the kitten heels and gold lame pantsuits of Joan Collins to deliver lines like, "The champagne was flat, the caviar was mushy and some of the company, to put it bluntly, very, very dull." Of course, fans of the original series will remember that Alexis didn't show up until season two, but she made the show so much better, hopefully the reboot will skip to the good part with all the glamourous fighting, brilliant put downs, and dramatic cliffhangers.
