11 Reasons Why We're Obsessed with Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman
These Aussies have stolen our Southern hearts.
We'll admit that we can't explain it, but there's just something about Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban that people (including us) really, really love. The seemingly odd couple first met at a G'Day LA Hollywood event in 2005. They married soon after, celebrating their love with a gorgeous wedding in Sydney, Australia in 2006, and were soon joined by two daughters. Over the last (almost!) 11 years, this couple has proved time after time how right they are for each other and we can't get enough of it. Is it the vision of the statuesque Oscar-winning actress walking down the red carpet of the Grammys on the arm of her country singer husband? Is it seeing the two Aussies settle down to married life in Nashville? Is it the hearts in their eyes and the little birds that suddenly appear every time they're near each other? Whatever it is, it looks like our obsession is here to stay.
1. Nicole had a crush on him—and he turned her down
"I had such a crush on him, and he wasn't interested in me," Kidman told Ellen DeGeneres when she visited her talk show earlier this year. The audience had a hard time believing that anyone would turn down Nicole Kidman, though. "It's true! He didn't call me for four months," she explained, laughing.
2. They set the bar for relationship goals
"Meeting her and getting married wasn't life-changing, it was life-beginning," Keith told CBS News. "It was literally, like, 'OK, life starts.'" If that's not enough to make you swoon, back in 2014, Nicole told InStyle that when they were apart, Keith would leave her a love letter for every night he's away.
3. They show up for each other on the Red Carpet
Did you ever expect to see a glamorous Oscar winner at the American Idol finals? Kidman comes to support her husband at the Country Music Awards, the CMT Awards, and the Grammys, while Keith has been on Nicole's arm at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards.
4. They root for each other even when they can't be together
Nicole had to fly to the 2017 BAFTA award ceremony for her work in Lion, so she was in the UK when Keith was walking the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. That didn't stop them from rooting for each other, though. "I will be FaceTiming my husband and hoping that he wins," she told E! at the Big Little Lies premiere.
5. They are there for each other in the dark times, too
A few months after their wedding, Keith checked into the Betty Ford Center to treat alcohol addiction. Nicole immediately flew home to be by his side, even though she was in the middle of a press tour for Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus. A year later, Urban recounted his decision to go to rehab to People, telling them that as hard as it was for him to face his problems, it was "very, very hard to have to have [Nicole] go through that."
6. They are still very romantic
These two lovebirds were spotted on the Oscars' Red Carpet in full lip-lock for a very public display of affection. They didn't even seem to mind that the photographers captured their entire make-out session. Later they were spotted holding hands and smiling at each other. They're not shy about it in interviews, either. Nicole told a talk show that she and Urban will tell their two daughters that "Mommy and Daddy need to have kissy-kissy time" whenever they need some private-time in the bedroom.
7. They gush about each other
Nicole says Keith is "the most beautiful man I've ever met". He thought she was way out of his league, which is why it took him so long to ask her out! Now, "Just love. Just love each other, lavish each other with love," she told PEOPLE at a special screening of her latest film Lion
8. They admit marriage is hard work
Having a long-term, loving relationship isn't easy, especially when you're both traveling the world for work. It's nice to have a celebrity couple get real about the fact that it can be a challenge, instead of pretending it's all flowers, hearts, and "kissy-kissy time." "We just work at it," Urban told CBS in an interview. "We love each other and we work at it. It's beautiful work."

9. They really love their daughters
Nicole and Keith seem very content with their daughters, Faith Margaret and Sunday Rose, and enjoying the journey of watching them grow. "They are constantly changing," Kidman told People. "It's just discovering their little spirits and we are so lucky to have them. We really are. They're love children."
10. Keith writes songs about her
Being married to a country singer has its perks, including having songs written in your honor. Keith's duet with Carrie Underwood, "The Fighter", was inspired by his desire to protect Kidman "every day." "It's a song about protecting the one you love, so that they don't have to take the blows of the world, and can stay pure," he told ET Online. "I try [to do that for my wife] every day."
11. They aren't afraid of grand gestures
Nothing keeps these two apart, even when Nicole was working on a play in London and Keith was on tour in the middle of the States. "I said, 'It's too much for you to have to fly all the way back, don't worry,' and he said, 'I'm flying,'" Nicole told DuJour magazine. "He flew 10 hours to come and be with me for the night, and then he flew back and did a gig. That for me is love in action. That's extraordinary. But I would do the same for him and that's what we've committed to as a couple."
