Texas natives and twins Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush have grown up in the public eye. The girls joke about trick-or-treating on a plane while their grandfather, George H.W. Bush, was running for president – so even Halloween memories are remarkably different than other Southern upbringings. In the twins' new book, Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life, Jenna and Barbara go through the stories that defined them, both in and out of the public eye. With Secret Service agents around them at college to their names being splayed across tabloid headlines, Jenna and Barbara address the good, the angry, the grace of being raised in a "political dynasty." Above all, however, the girls have maintained a bond of sisterhood unlike any other.
We sat down with the girls to talk a little bit about their new book and what makes their relationship so strong. The two came up with some pretty hilarious answers about their strengths, shared lessons, and twin telepathy. "My sister loves to have fun...she loves to make people laugh," Barbara said of Jenna. When asked what Barbara does better, Jenna immediately replied with, "Mathematics" – much to the chagrin of her sister. Join these spirited Southerners as they remind us all of why we are stronger together.
