It's a boy! Today we're joining folks the world over in congratulating Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate) on the birth of their son. The newest heir to the British throne arrived today at 4:24 p.m. (London time), weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces. In celebration of the occasion we've rounded-up the made-in-the-South presents we'd include in a welcome basket luxe enough for a (one day) king. We think the royal parents will be jolly-well-pleased with the gifts. After all, Southerners and Brits have quite a bit in common--a classic sense of style, distinct accents, and an affinity for tea. (Though ours is decidedly sweeter). These charming gifts are also equally well-suited for little prince and princesses on this side of the pond. Go ahead and add spoiling our children rotten to the list of shared traits.

1) Wash Box by Baby Bear Shop | Nashville, TN Organic shampoo and soap, plus nubby knit wash cloths. Gentle enough for a newborn, but decadent enough for, oh, a duchess.

2) Smocked Layette by Little English | Lexington, Kentucky Classic, limited-edition children's clothing with a name decidedly befitting of the occasion.

3) Moses Basket by Lilly's Sweet Grass Baskets | Edisto, South Carolina The nursery staple gets a Southern makeover by way of a sweet grass basket from the Low Country Gullah community. Sweet dreams little prince!

4) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee | Monroeville, Alabama This leather-bound edition turns the iconic Southern coming-of-age-novel into an heirloom worthy gift. Pair it with personalized bookplate (adorned with a crown perhaps?) for an extra-special present.

5) Monogrammed Burp Cloth by Leontine Linens | New Orleans, Louisiana Don't worry--we haven't forgotten the monogrammed goodies. These custom burp cloths are one of the many children's items from the South's premier monogram shop, Leontine Linens. How to monogram a gift when the child has multiple middle names like the royal baby is expected to? We love the idea of prominently featuring the last name initial with the first and multiple middle initials hovering in an arc above.

6) Sterling Sliver Julep Cup from Bromberg's | Birmingham, Alabama We know, we know. The House of Windsor is already stocked with plenty of sterling silver (not to mention the crown jewels). But for good measure we're rounding-out our list with a timeless julep cup. It might come in handy if the princeever attends the Kentucky Derby. His great-grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, did just that in 2007.

What would you add to the list? Here's what a few of our Facebook fans suggested.

"Plant a magnolia tree in the baby's honor." -- Wendy J. Poole, Fayetteville, Arkansas

"A cowboy hat and boots (tot size)." -- Susan Benavides, Lubbock, Texas

"A cast iron skillet so the baby can grow up eating cornbread!" -- Mary Claire Crowson, Meridian, Mississippi

Now we want to hear your go-to Southern baby gifts!
