Erin and Ben Napier Gave Their Baby-to-Be a Super Meaningful—and Classically Southern—Name
Earlier this week, Erin and Ben Napier, the stars of HGTV’s Home Town, shared that they are expecting their first baby together later this year. In a candidly honest blog post announcing her pregnancy, Erin shared her fears and hopes about motherhood as well as the sweet name they’ve decided to give their baby girl: Helen.
The Mississippi native said her daughter’s name is an ode to her own grandmother. Naming children after family members is a classic Southern tradition, and one that makes choosing a baby’s name all the more significant (and sometimes difficult). The parents haven’t shared it yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Helen’s middle name also carries a great deal of meaning to her parents. Aside from the familial connection, Helen is a timeless name—there have been famous Helens since ancient Greece after all!—and means “the bright one.”

The Napiers have had a whirlwind of a year with the success of the first season of their TV show, and the filming of a second season. Erin noted in her blog post that “everything in our life feels like it’s so much, so big, all the time” and that she knew when she found out she was pregnant that it “had to be something normal without fuss or fanfare or onesies that say things.” Which is why Erin waited until she was almost 7 months pregnant to make the announcement. Erin said she and Ben have so cherished these months of “secrecy,” and that since they’ve been filming season 2 since the end of July, we’ll all get to follow along this exciting journey with the parents-to-be when season 2 begins airing in January. Hopefully we’ll get to see that crib Ben apparently started working on only an hour after learning he was going to be a dad.
We couldn’t be happier for these parents-to-be and can’t wait to see baby Helen’s nursery—there’s no doubt it will be designed and crafted with so much love.
