Carrie Underwood's warmth and kindness extend beyond her sparkling eyes, blonde hair, and winning smile. Now, in light of her recent fall that required 40+ stitches in her face, the star's inner beauty has become more clear than ever.

As Southerners, we've long held the concept that beauty comes from within close to our hearts. The country star, mama, and wife is channeling that ethos as she faces a tough road ahead. In a new letter to her fan club members, Underwood wrote, "There is also another part of the story that I haven't been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life." After revealing that she also injured her face in the fall and required 40 to 50 stitches as a result, she continued: "I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way."

Her inspiring words underscore the value of gratitude in enduring life's more trying situations and remind us of Underwood's grace and strength. Her actions, too, of course, speak louder than words. The 34-year-old country star is also a devoted philanthropist, having founded the C.A.T.S. Foundation in 2009 to help her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma. She's supported the Humane Society, PETA, USO, and many other charitable causes, along with performing in many benefit concerts throughout her career.

Above all, through her charity work and her thoughtful message to her fans, Underwood never fails to show the world that beauty isn't simply found in how we look when we say cheese for the camera.

Here's to a speedy recovery, Carrie!
