The Best Southern License Plates We've Ever Seen
A debate we’re not going near with a 10-foot pole is whether or not Southerners are bad drivers. We don’t care if old Uncle Buck is driving 20 mph below the speed limit or Aunt June is driving 30 mph over; it’s not a topic that’s going to grace our Thanksgiving table. But we will happily laugh at (or seriously question) some the creative license plates we see driving along our roadways. Whether drawing inspiration from Biblical references, Southern niceties, or SEC pride, Southern drivers cruise down our Southern interstates with some funny license plate creations. And don’t worry—we did the digging for you. Here are 20 of the most outrageous license plates from our Southern states.
Here Are Some Of Our Favorites:
Keep an eye out for these funny license plates on your next road trip!
Alabama: “Howdy Do”
Simple, Southern, and polite. We like it.
Texas: “OMG BBQ”
Southerners love their barbecue, and you’re going to find some of the best barbecue in the country in the heart of Texas. We expect this driver frequents a barbecue joint or three per week.
Illinois (by way of Texas): “Hook ‘Em!”
These University of Texas at Austin fans aren’t letting their expat status keep them from proudly sporting “Hook ‘em Horns!” on their car and furry friend.
Louisiana: “You’re Ugly”
This fickle driver isn’t giving out any compliments, but we like to think it’s just his Southern humor coming out?
North Carolina: “Thanks Gramps”
This North Carolinian makes sure to give credit where credit is due—in this case, letting the world know on his plate!
West Virginia: “I Am Late”
We can’t always help it if our casserole took a little long to cook or our hair took extra time to tease; we’d rather be tardy than ill-prepared.
North Carolina: “Lord Bless Me”
This Southerner wears his heart on his sleeve and his favorite religious sentiments on his car.
Tennessee: “Empty Nest”
This driver is letting the world know he or she has finally had all the kids fly the coop. Seeking congratulations or social invitations, we assume?
Georgia: “Oh Deer!”
This driver knows the perils of a deer running out in the middle of the road at any given time in South Georgia, as those crazy (but cute) animals do.
Texas: “I’m From (Texas)”
This Texan is proud of his home state, which is certainly true for most Texans. But he really wanted to let the world know, no matter where he was.
North Carolina: “Hissy Fits”
We don’t know what this driver is exactly referring to (there is a North Carolina band of the name), but any Southerner raising a child knows the hissy fit well.
Virginia: “Eat the Kids First”
We salute this driver for the creativity of the joke, but we’re not so sure about his sense of humor…
This self-proclaimed geezer has a sense of humor, and it could not be paired any better than with a sensible Smart car.
Alabamians are nothing short of patriotic as a bunch, but this driver makes sure to spice up his patriotic sentiment with a little Roll Tide.
Texas: “Gee, You’re Slow!”
Southerners aren’t averse to a little friendly road rage every so often—we can only be polite for so long when stuck behind a tractor going 10 mph!
Florida: “Yes, Officer?”
We can’t help but smile at this cheeky license plate; we’re sure a Lamborghini owner might get a speeding ticket every now and then.
Texas: “See Y’all”
There’s that Southern hospitality. This Texan is making sure to spread the niceties even while cruising around.
Alabama: “A** Whoopin’!”
This Bama fan isn’t laying low with his love for the school. We’re sure he’s screaming "Roll Tide" every Saturday in the fall, loud and proud.
Kentucky: “God Be With You”
This Kentuckian is giving out some blessings, no matter where he is or where he’s heading.
Texas: “Tee ‘Em Up”
This golf lover is looking for a new partner to play a round at the country club.
