Netflix dropped the first trailer Persuasion, the romcom-y version of the beloved Jane Austen novel starring Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot, on Tuesday. Netflix "Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities," Netflix's official description reads. "When Frederick Wentworth—the dashing one she let get away—crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances." "I almost got married once," Johnson says in the beginning of the lush, romantic trailer. "But he was a soldier without rank or fortune, and I was persuaded to give him up." Drama, snark, and hilarity (much to the chagrin of Austin devotees) ensue as the two former lovers get to know each other once again, plagued by regret and longing. "Now we're worse than exes," Johnson despairs. "We're friends." Persuasion hits Netflix on July 15. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
