Atlanta-Based Bauble Stockings Is the Christmas Tradition We Can't Wait to Start
Each hand-stitched stocking helps a variety of good causes.
Born and based in Atlanta, Kate Stice Stewart, founder of Bauble Stockings, created her company around a ritual she's held close to her heart since her own childhood: "Bauble Stockings are based on my family’s tradition, where the final gift of Christmas, or a clue to it, was found in your Bauble Stocking. It wasn’t the most expensive gift, but it was the most thoughtful, and always made you feel so loved," Stice Stewart shared with Southern Living. "Since launching, I’ve heard so many different uses for the Bauble Stocking; amazing stories of kids searching the house on scavenger hunts, newlyweds who take turns planning a surprise trip each year, and even grandparents replacing their white envelopes with something that will become a treasure for years to come."
What's more, is that these beautiful keepsake stockings are 100% hand-stitched in Haiti, helping to employ local women who depend on the income. "Our stitchers are single moms who earn the equivalent of a nurse or teacher and can work from their homes. Starting this tradition in your home genuinely provides meaningful jobs in another," notes Stice Stewart. This collaboration is operated through the Haitian nonprofit Good Threads Needlepoint.
In addition to this partnership with Good Threads Needlepoint, Bauble Stockings gives back to the Atlanta Children's Shelter by donating 5% of their profits to the organization. Bauble Stockings also works with guest artists: In lieu of payment for their work, each guest artist picks a charity that's meaningful to them for 10% of their design's profits to benefit, on top of the 5% Bauble Stockings gives to Atlanta Children's Shelter.
