Carolyn O'Neil Title: Food and Nutrition Board Education: Florida State University, Boston University Location: Atlanta, Georgia Carolyn O'Neil MS, RDN is a registered dietitian nutritionist with a Masters Degree in Nutrition and Communication. O'Neil has written two cookbooks including Southern Living's Slim Down South Cookbook and the Dish on Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous co-authored by Densie Webb, PhD, RD published by Simon & Schuster Atria Books. She contributed two chapters to Nutrition Communications: An Authoritative Guide published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. As an adjunct professor, O'Neil taught journalism at Emory University for two semesters and taught nutrition science and food in the media at Florida State University's London Study Centre for Spring semester 2022.O'Neil launched CNN's global coverage of food, nutrition and cuisine and led the Food & Health team for 18 years as executive producer, senior correspondent, anchor and managing editor. For ten years O'Neil wrote a weekly column, "Healthy Eating Out," for the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, covering nutrition news, menu trends, and expert advice on how to dine out more healthfully. O'Neil has been a nutrition advisor to Delta Airlines Culinary Council for four years and is a new member of Google's Food Lab. As a keynote speaker or panelist, O'Neil has presented on the topic of nutrition communications at national conferences including those for The National Restaurant Association, The Culinary Institute of America, The Academy of Nutrition, and Dietetics and the James Beard Foundation. Experience Carolyn O'Neil began her career as a registered dietitian nutritionist at Peter Brigham Hospital, a Harvard University Medical School teaching hospital, as a nutrition educator for clients with diabetes. Her next stop launched her career in broadcast journalism, as a consumer reporter and noon news anchor for the CBS affiliate in the West Palm Beach, Florida, market.In 1982, Carolyn joined CNN to launch the network's global coverage of food, nutrition and cuisine where for 18 years she anchored, reported and produced daily Nutrition News stories and a weekly program called On The Menu. She then turned to print and digital journalism to write a weekly column for the Atlanta Journal & Constitution called Healthy Eating Out and contributed nutrition content to WebMD. Also at this time Carolyn wrote her first book The Dish on Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous co-authored by Densie Webb, PhD, RD.Always fascinated with world culture and cuisines, ten years ago Carolyn began a new career twist in food and travel writing. She has contributed travel features to Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, VIE Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine and the Atlanta Journal & Constitution. Education Carolyn O'Neil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods & Nutrition with a minor in English from Florida State University, graduating cum laude. Her Masters of Science degree in Nutrition with a specialization in Communication is from Boston University. While at Boston University, Carolyn received a scholarship from the Reader's Digest Foundation for her work in nutrition communications. Carolyn completed her dietetic internship officiated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in San Diego.
