One of the most popular is "it's not the heat—it's the humidity." This expression is most often used when discussing the conditions outdoors, but it also sums up the battle between the region's humidity and any Southerner's hair quite well. As Southern women, we understand that protecting our locks from the humidity is just as vital as protecting them from the heat. This is a lesson we learn at a young age—and, sometimes, the hard way—because without the right product, a quick trip to the grocery store can ruin the most meticulous blowout. Finding a product that works is also part of the education process. To help save your hair (and mine) from frizzing up the moment you step outside, I asked Southern Living editors—and a few friends—to share their tried-and-true products for humid days. Here are the sprays, primers, and creams that keep their locks frizz-free from Texas to Alabama. Living Proof No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer Buy on Amazon This product is so good it comes with an endorsement from not one but two SL staffers, Senior Social Media Editor Brennan Long and Digital Editor Jenna Sims. "I love this de-frizzer because it helps tame frizz instantly when it (inevitably) forms," Sims raves. "It refreshes my hair and leaves it with a soft, smooth finish while preventing frizz from coming back." "I'm on day-long video shoots a lot, so I often have to use extra hairspray to make my styles last throughout multiple wardrobe changes," she explains. "I love this hairspray for when I'm shooting outside, because it helps hold my curl even in the sweltering humidity. Its price tag is hefty, so I save it for days when I'll be outside (or standing over a steaming pot on the stove)." Price at time of publish: $42 Garnier Fructis Style Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk Buy on Amazon "I've been using this on and off since I was finally started to embrace my naturally curly and coarser hair texture in late high school," says Travel and Culture Editor Tara Massouleh McCay. "It's easy-to-find in a drugstore and has always done well for last-minute styling. I just add a couple pumps to wet or damp hair and it defines my waves, while eliminating frizz. The best part is it doesn't leave my hair feeling 'crunchy' or stiff like curly hair gel products often do." "It is miraculous! My hair is susceptible to frizziness with humidity since it is thinner and fine, and this helps tame it," she says. "I can 1,000% tell a difference when I forget to use it. I also like that you spray it on wet hair." Price at time of publish: $48 Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer Bumble and bumble Buy on Ulta Associate Editor Kaitlyn Yarborough lives in Austin, so having a go-to anti-humidity spray comes with the territory. "I’m convinced that this product is the ultimate multitasker! I use it as a leave-in conditioner, detangler, heat protector, and major frizz fighter," she says. "It leaves your hair feeling so much smoother and softer, especially if you’re heat styling. I noticed such a difference in my frizz levels in the Texas heat, even in summer when it’s dreadfully hot and humid outside!" Price at time of publish: $32 Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray Sephora Buy on Sephora Another friend-endorsed de-frizzer, this rec comes from Gavin Taylor Blue of Bethesda, Maryland. "My go-to is the Oribe Royal Blowout! It’s a heat protecting spray and is the absolute best at protecting my hair before styling and keeping it frizz-free. The shine and smell quality is incredible," she adds. Price at time of publish: $69 Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
