Louisville in the Fall

Autumn brings a kaleidoscope of color to Louisville. The city features a plethora of parks and graceful neighborhoods, as well as college campuses--all with enough turning leaves to create a fall fantasia for exploring. Now's the time to put on your walking shoes and search out the best music, artwork, and events of the season.

 Speed Art Museum: Take in the exhibit "Ed Hamilton: From the Other Side," which celebrates the artist's African American roots. It runs through December 29. While in the museum, explore the permanent works by Rubens, Monet, Rembrandt, and Picasso. (502) 634-2700 or www.speedmuseum.org.

Louis D. Brandeis School of Law: At the University of Louisville, a permanent photo exhibit, "A Legacy of Leadership: African American Pioneers in Kentucky Law," focuses on African American attorneys. Another showcase, "Connecting with Our Legacy: Kentucky's Early Women Lawyers," is also housed in the East Wing. (502) 852-5555.

In the Park

Central Park: Pick up a walking tour brochure at Fourth and Magnolia, where you can stroll St. James and Belgravia Courts. Here you'll revel in grand homes built in Victorian, Gothic, Queen Anne, Italianate, and Beaux Arts styles. (502) 635-5244.
