See and Be Seen
It's East Nashville's time, thanks to a rush of new restaurants such as Hal Holden-Bache's Lockeland Table and haute coffee bar Barista Parlor. At the 5 Spot dive bar, the Keep on Movin' Monday night dance party gets area hipsters on their feet. Good live music is Nashville's MO, and shows at Third Man Records sell out in minutes. The giant elephant head on the back wall was sourced for owner Jack White by Mike Wolfe of American Pickers, whose Antique Archaeology is in nearby Marathon Village.
Dress Like a Local
Nashvillians go for a high-low mélange of designer pieces from boutiques such as H. Audrey grounded with work shirts and cowboy boots. An Americana fashion presence stars denim haven Imogene + Willie and boot king Peter Nappi. Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town embodies Nashville's high-low aesthetic with a mix of designers (Alaïa, Gucci) and American classics such as good old Levis.
The Hermitage Hotel (rooms from $259) provides ne plus ultra accommodations for visiting heads of state and Hollywood royalty alike. That makes the lobby and swank Oak Bar the best people-watching in town.
