5 Best Places To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Well, aside from Ireland, that is. We've rounded up some of the biggest, and most quirky St. Patrick's Day in the South. Erin go braugh, y'all.

1. Savannah, GA

Why you should go: The third largest St. Patrick's Day celebration in the world takes place over four days (March 14-17). Among events: the Tara Feis Celebration, a non-alcoholic celebration featuring Irish musicians, storytellers and children's performers, and the March 17 parade that takes place from 10:15 to 2 p.m.

Green River? They tried it, but stick to dyeing fountains now.

2. San Antonio, TX

Why you should go: Because at the Harp & Shamrock Society of Texas Annual South Texas Alamo Festival, you can watch the Texas League Gaelic Football Tournament, aka the "other football" and still make it over to the Murphy's St. Patrick's Day parade along the river walk.

Green River? Yes

3. Hot Springs, AR

Why you should go: Because it's home to the "World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade," which takes place along 98 feet of Bridge Street. It also features what organizers herald as "The World's Largest Leprechaun" and a "Troop of Marching Elvis Impersonators."

Green River? No, but there are Marching Elvi.

4. Kansas City, MO

Why you should go: Dating back to 1873, Kansas City's parade is the city's largest annual event. This year's honorary grand marshal is Gillian Flynn, Kansas native and author of the bestseller "Gone Girl."

Green River? No, but this is the 30th year the organizers have run a major food drive in conjunction with the event. (Might even be better than a green river.)

5. Washington, D.C.

Why you should go: Their annual St. Patrick's Day Parade (March 15) features more than 100 marching bands and military units. St. Pat's continues in the capital on March 21, with ShamrockFest, which claims to be "America's largest St. Patrick's Day celebration." Think: a day long music festival with Celtic and Alternative rock.

Green River? No, but the White House has been known to dye fountain water green on occasion.
