autumn scenic drive
Georgia's State 180 twists its way across pretty valleys to Brasstown Bald.

Amicalola Falls State Park: (706) 265-4703.
Lodge information: 1-800-573-9656.
Dahlonega/Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center: 1-800-231-5543.
Vogel State Park: (706) 745-2628.
Brasstown Bald and Russell-Brasstown National Scenic Byway: (706) 745-6928.

It's autumn, and that means it's the perfect time to hit the byways. Along the Peach State's northernmost backroads, you'll encounter bucolic scenery, wondrous waterfalls, charming towns, and majestic vistas.

There will likely be lots of other folks in search of seasonal vignettes, so we've planned a route that harvests bits of well-known drives while reaping a small crop of lesser-known destinations. Although you can cover this route in a day, plan on two or three.
