A NOTE TO OUR READERS:
"Good Night, Oxford" is from the October 2007 issue of Southern Living.
Because prices, dates, and other specifics are subject to change, please check all
information to make sure it's still current before making your travel plans.
Nighttime rolls into Oxford, Mississippi, like a party train come
to town. Thanks to a local live radio show and a snazzy new
bed-and-breakfast, revelers have more ways to live it up long after the
sun sets.
Audience Approval
The strum of a banjo, the lyrical style of
a poet, and the quick wit of a Southern storyteller bring visitors to
the live recording of the Thacker Mountain Radio Show 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Thursdays now through November 29 at Off Square Books. You can also
listen on Mississippi Public Radio (WOXD 95.5).
Happy Haunts
Restaurant 208 South Lamar puts on a
mouthwatering performance too. Sopping-good Charleston she-crab soup and
pecan-and-andouille-encrusted halibut delight patrons. At Proud Larry's,
locals gear up for more cool tunes and chilled cocktails.
When the night winds down, make your way to The Colonel's Quarters
guesthouse. The antebellum replica house sits on 50 acres and looks like
something out of a John Grisham novel--pretty enough for a made-for-TV
movie but affordable enough for weary travelers.
