In most of the South, it's not hard to get to the beach. The Atlantic Coast, the Texas Coast, and parts in between have destinations with sun and sand. In the spring or other off-seasons, the beach is an ideal location because the summer crowds are absent, and prices are usually affordable. Plus, condominiums are generally available for rent, which allows several people to split the bill.

If you'd love to get away to a cozy cabin in the mountains, your choices range from Arkansas' Ozarks to the well-hiked Great Smoky Mountains. Those who like to escape the heat, go for long walks, and enjoy the peacefulness of the woods will find a variety of accommodations to choose from at each.
• Shopping Central
Dallas, New Orleans, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. These are just a few cities around the South that offer lots of things to do. Grab a couple of your closest pals and hit a high-rise hotel, complete with room service, taxicabs, and quick trips to super-size stores. Maybe schedule a great spa treatment too.
• Weekend at Home
Why not just stay put? You don't really need a destination out of town to spend a few days with the girls. Plan an old-fashioned slumber party at a friend's house, and make "catching up" your activity. Order pizza, rent a favorite movie, and save a little money for the wedding.
