The first step in any great weekend getaway is deciding where to go. For us the decision was easy. Our family loves the beach. From Birmingham, it's only a few hours' drive to the Florida Panhandle for me, and Rhea Leigh could get there easily from Atlanta. The convenient location also made it possible for friends from all over the South to join us.
For our weekend destination, we chose WaterColor Inn, a resort in Seagrove Beach, Florida, nestled between Grayton Beach State Park and Seaside. The amenities were endless and gave the 12 of us plenty to do. Restaurants, pools, bicycles, kayaks, canoes, and lots of shopping nearby added to its appeal. Oh, and, of course, it's right on the beach.
