Packing Planner
Like many first-time cruisers, Judy Christian from Rainbow City, Alabama, says she wishes she'd lightened her load before getting on board. "Next time, I'll take more casual clothes and cut down on the evening wear," she says.
Indeed, many cruises are far less formal these days. Resort casual is the order of the day. Pack shorts, casual slacks, T-shirts, a bathing suit, and a nice cover-up. (Ships have laundry and valet services onboard, so there's no need to over pack.) Though most seven-day cruises offer two formal nights, you're not required to dress up. A dress will do for ladies and a coat and tie for men. Or you can opt out all together and enjoy the buffet.
