• Jackson, MS
Chummy guests sip to the sounds of gurgling fountains and splashing
water during a poolside mixer at the Old Capitol Inn. The aquatic
centerpiece--located outdoors on the main floor of the charming
property--inspires one of the most social scenes in the city.
Drink It In
Twice a day, for breakfast and lunch, the water feature lures hotel
guests and hungry patrons outside. Diners seated in the garden munch on
fluffy Dixie crab cakes ($9.75) and savory shrimp and grits ($10.25).
Mediterranean-style urns hold brilliant plants, and a nearby goldfish
pond teems with ruby red and copper-colored koi.
Guests of the hotel enjoy another helping of fun by the pool during the
wine-and-cheese social from 5 to 6 p.m. The sounds of clinking glasses
and the gentle pops of Champagne corks ring out a festive song.
View From Above
For another perspective, dash upstairs to the Rooftop
Garden. Decked with potted plants and a roomy hot tub, the locale sports
vistas of the state capitol and Jackson's sparkling downtown. Weekend
guests love to rent the space and personalize their very own themed
rooftop parties, such as Sushi Under the Stars and other stylized
soirees. For additional fees, the hotel supplies the food and beverages.
You just bring the attitude.
When the merriment slows, patrons can retreat to suites that overlook
the pool. They prop open the balcony doors to catch cool breezes, and
slumber to the sound of babbling fountains. The delicate trickles tell a
sweet bedtime story that promises even sweeter sleep.
