Easy, Creative Summer Centerpiece
When having friends over for a summer meal, spice up your table with this easy and fun centerpiece featuring fresh vegetables and gerbera daisies.

Everything you need to create this bright, sunny arrangement can be purchased at your local farmers market, grocery store and florist.

Creative Centerpiece
1. Wash vegetables thoroughly. Cut the tops off bell peppers, and remove seeds. Hollow out the cabbage and the eggplant using a coring knife. Hollow each vegetable enough to support the florist foam or frog. The red cabbage should resemble a bowl; we sliced our squash to look like a boat, laying it flat on one side.

2. Allow the vegetables to dry on a paper towel while you prepare the flowers.

3. Choose gerbera daisies to contrast and complement the colors of the vegetables. Place flower stems in lukewarm water, and cut at an angle. Add florist wire to the stems of the gerberas to support heavy heads, if needed.

4. Soak florist foam. Place pieces of foam or frogs in the hollowed-out vegetables. Arrange the gerbera daisies in the foam and frogs, standing upright. Add water to keep the flowers fresh. Use wet paper towels inside the vegetables for additional support, if needed.

5. Place short pieces of curly parsley around the base of stems to fill in and hide florist foam and frogs.

6. For an interesting twist, cluster three gerberas to form a burst of color, and then wrap green beans around the stems, securing with raffia.

7. Arrange the centerpiece on your table, or cluster the vegetables on a favorite flat basket or platter. Be sure to add water daily to keep flowers fresh. When flowers are spent, remember to remove frogs before disposing of vegetables.
