OKLAHOMA CITY
Cattlemen's Steakhouse (Steaks & Such): 1309 South Agnew Avenue; (405) 236-0416 or www.cattlemensrestaurant.com. The Cattleman's T-bone comes charcoal-singed, and tender enough to cut with a fork. Steaks are served beginning at 6 a.m. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Mickey Mantle's Steakhouse (Steaks & Such): 7 Mickey Mantle Drive; (405) 272-0777 or www.mickeymantelsteakhouse.com. Try the Pepper Steak, a filet mignon with a cracked peppercorn crust. Conveniently located in Bricktown, with live entertainment on weekends. Dinner.
Newton's Steakhouse & Grille (Traditional Southern): 1025 NW. 70th Street; (405) 840-0115 or www.johnniesok.com. This might just be the fanciest meat-and-three restaurant you've ever been to. While the menu lists some gourmet items, your best bet is the Chicken Fried Steak ($15). Trust us, after the first tender bite, you'll agree. Dinner (closed Sunday).
Ranch Steakhouse (Steaks & Such): 3000 West Britton Road; (405) 755-3501 or www.ranchsteakhouse.com. Prime beef here tastes like it just came off the campfire. Combine it with a selection from the outstanding wine list (800 bottles) for a memorable meal. Dinner (closed Sunday).
STILLWATER
Mexico Joe's (Tex-Mex): 311 East Hall of Fame Avenue; (405) 372-1169 or www.mexicojoes.com. Go for the flautas and made-fresh-daily salsa. Stay for the bubbly hot enchiladas and other Sonorah-style Mexican food. Lunch, dinner.
TULSA
The Spudder Restaurant (Steaks & Such): 6536 East 50th Street; (918) 665-1416. For more than 25 years, this has been one of Tulsa's favorite steak houses. Hundreds of porcelain signs on the walls and old-time gas pumps stand at attention to remind diners of the bygone oil boom days. Feeling hungry? Try the 22-ounce prime rib, affectionately called the Gusher dinner.
