Perfect Porch Addition
Love your house but still want more space? Add an outdoor room, in the form of a new porch, as a beautiful solution!
- While a new front door, light fixtures and better landscaping all do wonders to boost a home’s curb appeal, the most important one of all just may be the front porch.
- The home shown here was a wonderful house, but originally had no front porch at all. The owners wanted one that was wide and about as long as the house so they could turn it into a place for relaxing and entertaining.
- The project was no small one—the new porch spans nearly the entire front of the house and includes a balcony on the second floor. But the result was well worth the effort and cost, as the family actually gained twice as much living space!
- To give the porch character, the owners chose reclaimed brick for the floor and beaded board for the ceiling. For seating, weather-resistant wicker and cushions save the day.
- The railing style is a custom-designed Chippendale-style framework mixed with vertical slats to best complement the style of the home’s exterior.
- With the new porch also came a new paint job for the entire house, in a custom-mixed cream color that combines a bit of yellow, tan, and white. The results are outstanding!
