Simple Sensational Centerpieces

With fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables coming in season, the possibilities for lovely centerpieces are endless. Here are a few ideas from our editors:

  • Shown here, spheres of florist foam embellished with “Kermit” chrysanthemums offer a new look for bargain-priced blooms. Daisies and candles add brightness to the table indoors or out.
  • A color ceramic bowl becomes a fresh and pretty arrangement. Place a small glass partially filled with water inside the bowl and then surround it with lemons and small oranges, or other colorful fruit. Insert a topiary bouquet of carnations tied with color-coordinated ribbons. Add a few more fruits to cover the top of the water glass.
  • Wrap votive candleholders with pieces of wire-mesh fabric to hold flowers or candles. Finish off with ribbons in a desired accent color.
  • Create individual arrangements in tiny painted flowerpots for guests to take home. Insert water-soaked florist foam in each pot, and add several short stems of your favorite flower. Fill spaces with florist moss or raffia. Tuck a place card in each bouquet for a personal touch.
  • Bright gerbera daisies and snapdragons look wonderful in colorful bottles grouped together as a single centerpiece, or spread individually around the table.
  • A single large magnolia blossom placed in a glass bottle with a narrow neck is a simple way to dress up a tablescape. Add more greenery, such as fern fronds, to soften the look.
