Special North Carolina Living Section This Month

Birmingham, AL – Southern Living emerges in March with a bold new look and feel. Our new combined Home & Garden section has flea market-inspired decorating ideas, tips for the garden, and how to be green and clean. Hungry? We conquer your sweet tooth with Tempting Two-Bite Desserts and a special Healthy Living section on how to fry with a clear conscience.

In Addition, a Special Section for North Carolina Readers:

A Lovely Coastal Tradition – This month’s don’t miss event is the Azalea Garden Tour in Wilmington. It is an annual event where some of the community’s most beautiful homes open their gardens to a host of visitors.

Spice it up – In Morrisville, Tuesday nights sizzle at Carmen’s Cuban Café when instructors Joy Manning and Norberto Herrera lead salsa lessons. Once you learn the steps, instructors crank up the music for a hot dance party.

The Great Race - Just a few miles outside of Charlotte, Bill and Carrington Price gear up for the 13th annual Queen’s Cup Steeplechase. As founders of this equestrian event, they hope it becomes one of the South’s iconic races.

Whistling Beyond Dixie – In Louisburg, whistling is more than just a pastime; it is a practiced art drawing competitors from all over the world to the International Whistling Convention. In fact, whistling has become so popular internationally that the Franklin County Arts Council has agreed to move the convention to Japan this summer.

Sweet Treats at The Hop – In Asheville, life is sweet at The Hop with Rusty and Kelly Bell’s signature ice cream. This old-time ice cream parlor not only serves up nostalgia, but also is a place where families can come and hang out.

Winning on Wheels – The winner of nine gold medals in Paralympic basketball, David Kiley has the experience and passion to coach the Charlotte Prep and Junior Rollin Bobcats to victory. The wheelchair teams are made up of both boys and girls, and some players have moved to the area just to experience Coach Kiley’s enthusiasm and spirit.
