Birmingham, AL – Spring is in the air and no one celebrates it more than Southern Living. In our April issue you will find no-fuss ideas for hosting an easy springtime party; how to have a terrific front yard; and recipes that will help you get your family—kids and all—to enjoy eating healthy.

Special this month—Florida Living: People & Places
Sanding Ovations –Sand sculptors Meredith Corson and Dan Doubleday create anything but castles through their company, Sanding Ovations. This world-competing couple turns flat sand into tall, magnificent sculptures in just hours for corporate events and weddings. And if you want to learn, they’ll teach you too.

The Green Community of Sky – Julia Starr Sanford and Bruce White are the visionaries for the next generation of sustainable communities. Taking lessons from history, they are working to design green communities based on old-world farming villages in their Calhoun County project, Sky.

Bert Gill Serves Local Fare – Want to know a chef’s secret? Buy local. Chef Bert Green claims the success for his three restaurants in Gainesville comes from using fresh, local fare. He is passionate about supporting local farmers, and he works hard to encourage others to do the same.

Florida’s Sweetest Town – In the small town of Clewiston in South Central Florida, the townspeople are in the business of being sweet. In fact, the U.S. Sugar Corporation has been headquartered there for more than 75 years and produces 10 percent of American-made sugar. Mayor Mali Soto Chamness loves the community within these sugar cane fields and looks forward to the Annual Sugar Festival each April.

Health Chic – Healthy living isn’t a chore; it’s fun and hip, according to Wendimere Reilly, founder of The Health Chic in Haines City and two other successful herb shops in Florida. Reilly says healthy living has been her fountain of youth, and she and her husband William want to share what they’ve learned with others.

Beautiful Bonsai– Dori and Maxwell Hayes have the shortest forest you have ever seen. Maples, junipers, and azaleas are manicured through Dori’s gifted hands in their business, Bonsai by Dori in Cottondale.
