SOUTHERN LIVING RETURNS TO FORT WORTH, TEXAS, FOR 2008 IDEA HOUSE IN IDLEWILD

Birmingham, Ala., and Fort Worth, Texas – Southern Living is returning to Fort Worth, and once again partnering with Village Homes for a 2008 Southern Living Idea House on the newly developed Idlewild Drive.

“We are very honored to have the opportunity to showcase our wares in Southern Living once again.  The good folks from Birmingham are a class act and we had a lot of fun working with them in 2000,” said Rob Sell, a partner with Village Homes.  “We’ve got a great team working on the 2008 house and look forward bringing people to Idlewild.”

“We are very excited to be back in Texas this year and working again with Village Homes,” said Southern Living Homes Program Director Kristen Payne. “They have built their business on timeless design and quality workmanship with attention to detail, which really sets them apart from everyone else.”

The home will be open for public tours June 14 – Sept. 28, Hours of operation will be Wednesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased on site. The house will be closed to public tours Monday and Tuesday.

A portion of the proceeds from the tours will go to The WARM Place, www.thewarmplace.org, a grief support center for children and their families who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The WARM Place is able to offer grief support groups free of charge thanks to the generosity of many donors and foundations.

“The WARM Place staff and volunteers are so thrilled to be a part of this partnership with Southern Living and Village Homes,” said Peggy Bohme, executive director of The WARM Place. “We look forward to having the opportunity to guide visitors through this gorgeous new home and at the same time raise funds to support our mission.”

Aptly named Verona Park, the 2008 Southern Living Idea House in Idlewild draws inspiration from traditional Italian Renaissance Period homes that dot the graceful old neighborhoods of Fort Worth and many cities across the Southwest. The home has 4,100 square feet with four bedrooms and four-and-one-half baths. As the most formal of our 2008 Idea Houses this year, this plan features a master bedroom on the main level, an upstairs game room, private study, formal dining, and large family room. This home also has a three-car garage and private veranda above the porte-cochere.

About Idlewild
Newly developed by Village Homes, Idlewild Drive is a charmingly slender crescent shaped street grafted into the western edge of the Crestwood neighborhood in west Fort Worth.  The addition is situated alongside the West Fork of the Trinity River and features large lots with scenic views down the river and south toward the mansion crested hills of Rivercrest.  The addition will soon be recognized for its tastefully restrained, timeless architecture, which is already tangibly expressed in its signature element: a picturesque red brick bridge which spans a wooded ravine and creek that winds through Idlewild Park. Idlewild bridge was inspired by the arched bridges of New York’s Central Park, designed by legendary architects Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux. The 2008 Southern Living Idea House will be the first of only 18 select homes in the community.

About Village Homes
Village Homes (www.homesofcharacter.com) was established in 1996 by Jim Harris, Michael Dike and Rob Sell. They shared a single guiding principle: To build unique, inspiring homes combining timeless architectural design with modern innovation.

This concept was conceived after Rob and Michael worked in real-estate related fields following graduation from the University of Texas. They were mutually dissatisfied with the monotonous designs that builders were churning out and thought they lacked character. Rob and Michael turned to Austin's charming neighborhoods developed in the 1920s and 30s for inspiration and soon realized that if they combined the simple elegance of these timeless older homes with the benefits of a well-built new home – they would really be onto something. Since then, Village Homes has become well known in and around Fort Worth for building state of the art homes which capture the uniqueness and understated elegance of early 20th century architecture.
