SOUTHERN LIVING ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH
PLEIN AIR FOR 2008 IDEA HOUSE

Birmingham, Ala., and Taylor, Miss. – Southern Living is proud to announce that the new community of Plein Air in Taylor, Miss., will be home to the first ever Southern Living Idea House in Mississippi.

“The community is a natural fit with our program,” said Southern Living Homes Group Director Kristen Payne. “Southern Living has featured Taylor in the magazine and when we saw the neighborhood that is building here around the arts – it is obviously the right place at the right time.”

Campbell McCool, one of the developers of the Plein Air neighborhood, agrees about the natural fit.

“When you think of Southern Living you think of a certain lifestyle, one of gracious living and a sense of community,” said McCool. “That is exactly what we have here. Taylor has long been known for its family-oriented lifestyle and of course the artists.”

Capturing the spirit of the local artist community, the 2008 Southern Living Idea House will be designed with young professionals at the start of family life in mind.  The home will offer just over 3,000 square feet and will showcase a detached artist studio. The story of this Idea House extends beyond the walls of the home and integrates the Southern lifestyle created in this exceptional artist community.

The Design Team
John Tee, who has been the lead architect for Plein Air and is a native of Mississippi, will design the new home. Ann Nordeen Parker of Looney Ricks Kiss in Memphis, Tenn., will be the interior designer on the project.

“The goal of the development team has always been to maintain an architectural style that is harmonious with the rural setting,” said Tee who also designed last year’s Southern Living Idea House in Greensboro, Ga.
“This home will speak of true southern hospitality in our modern world with the personality and expression of Taylor,” said Parker, who was the interior designer for last year’s Idea House in WaterSound, Fla., which ended up being on the cover of the August. 2007 issue.

About Plein Air
Located in downtown Taylor, Plein Air is a traditional neighborhood with a vibrant town square. The name originates from the Plein Air painter’s movement started in France in the 1800’s where artists emphasized outdoor painting to capture the beauty and simplicity of nature as it was meant to be seen. The community of Plein Air will take you back to that time where houses were close together to encourage interaction with your neighbor. Sidewalks that make it easy to walk – walk to dinner, the art gallery, a movie, a concert on the square.
