2007 Southern Living Idea House at WaterSound to Benefit
The Audubon Center at WestBay

WATERSOUND, Fla., and BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – (June 5, 2007) -- Southern Living announced today that Florida Audubon Society, Inc. has been named the official beneficiary of the 2007 Southern Living Idea House at WaterSound in Walton County, Florida.  Audubon plans to use the proceeds for a proposed Audubon Center at West Bay.

“We are very pleased to be the beneficiary of this unique program,” said David Anderson, Florida Audubon Society’s Executive Director. “We intend to use the funds raised through the 2007 Southern Living Idea House to advance planning for the proposed Audubon Center at WestBay, a vital project that we hope will inspire and educate generations to come about the importance of the natural environment.”

The Audubon Center at West Bay is being planned for a site of approximately 150 acres and is part of a preservation vision for more than 41,000 acres of protected wildlife habitat, including almost all of the shoreline of the West Bay of the St. Andrews Bay system.  The Audubon Center is being planned as a destination and educational portal that will provide opportunities for visitors and residents to access and appreciate this unique biological treasure.

“The work done by the Audubon Society is essential to protecting and promoting Northwest Florida’s quality of life,” said Bill McDougald, vice president and executive director of the Southern Progress Homes Group. “It is an honor for us to be able to support their work in the region through our Idea House program.”

The 2007 Southern Living Idea House at WaterSound will be featured in the August 2007 edition of the magazine. The house will be open for public tours June 16 – Sept. 30, 2007. Admission is $5 at the door, and hours of operation are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday, and 1 – 5 p.m. on Sunday (closed Monday–Tuesday).

Inspired by historic coastal maritime architecture, this Looney Ricks Kiss-designed Southern Living Idea House combines the comfort of a vacation home with thoughtful features that suit the versatile lifestyles—both social and private—of today’s families. It will serve as a public showcase for lifestyle and design ideas for those visiting Northwest Florida this summer.

About the Design
The two-story home sits on one of WaterSound’s premier lots, facing the community’s Davis Love III-designed innovative golf course called “Origins” for both casual and seasoned players. The home’s approximate 3,500 square feet of interior space includes three bedrooms and four baths, plus a bunk room. A spacious kitchen flows into the dining and living areas, which provide wide-open spaces for social gatherings and entertaining. Another 800 square feet is dedicated to an expansive, eight-foot-wide wrap-around front porch with deep overhangs facing open park spaces.

The Southern Living Idea House was built by Ridgeland, S.C.-based Haven Custom Homes, a leading manufacturer of high-end homes since 1970.

About The Town of WaterSound
While not a municipality or an unincorporated “town,” The Town of WaterSound is comprised of three distinctive residential communities, WaterSound, WaterSound Beach and WaterSound West Beach, all set along Scenic Highway 30A and Highway 98 located in the heart of Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast with some of the world’s most beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.  The three communities draw upon traditions of early 18th- and 19th-century maritime architecture of Nantucket and Newport, with aspects of traditional American town planning: short walkable blocks, neighborhood common areas, scenic paths leading to community facilities, parks and open spaces – all with a style responding to the climate and to the sites’ natural features.
