Roller shades provide privacy and block sunlight, but they leave much to be desired when it comes to style. Here's an easy solution. Think of the white background as a blank canvas, and embellish it with your favorite paint, fabrics, and trim.
You don't have to be an artist to re-create this look. The inspiration for the design came from a print found in the room.

To make things easier, we cut out a diamond shape from a sheet of plastic to use as a template. These sheets are available at most craft-supply stores, or you could also use cardboard. We traced the shapes onto the shade with a disappearing ink marker; then outlined each shape with painter's tape to ensure clean edges. Next, we filled in the diamonds using a sponge brush and pink fabric paint. After the paint dried, we removed the tape. Stars
Using pinking shears, we cut stars out of yellow-and-white gingham fabric. Next, we applied them to the shade with a good-quality fabric glue. The stars lend an interesting texture to the window treatments, but you could also add the same shapes using fabric paint in a coordinating color. (Try sewing on the stars if the shades are in an area with high humidity.)
Trim
The finishing touch is the pink trim found at the base of the shade. It is also applied with fabric glue. This treatment will brighten any area in your home. With just a little imagination, you can have a special look in no time.
