Eating My Words

Cooking with my buddy Timmy
I've been blessed with many extraordinary food opportunities and adventures in my life, but few compare to a meal I recently shared with shrimper (and all-round super dude) Timmy Cheramie.

Open-faced Turkey Joes

Some of the best parties are planned on the spur of the moment. No fancy linens, flatware, or china required. But even for these casual events, you need quick-fix, crowd-pleasing dishes. This simple, nutritious menu only takes about an hour and a half to make. Follow our cooking timeline for a path to low-stress culinary success.

Healthy Benefits
• Blackberries and other dark purple-colored fruits and vegetables are high in flavonoids, which help reduce inflammation in blood vessels and protect against chronic disease.
• Corn is a great source of folate, which is essential to red blood cell formation and nerve function.

Time It Right

Perfect Prep
• Scoop sorbet into small bowls or sherbet glasses, and place in the freezer up to one day ahead.
• Make the Corn-and-Lima Bean Salad up to four hours ahead. Cover and chill until ready to serve.
• Prepare topping for Open-faced Turkey Joes through Step 1. When guests arrive, reheat the meat mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Proceed as directed.

Fabulous Finale
• Invite your guests into the kitchen while preparing Warm Blackberry Sauce Over Mango Sorbet. Finish the dessert by spooning warm sauce atop the sorbet, ending with a light sprinkling of gingersnaps.
• Sit back and enjoy a job well done in the company of friends and family.
