Reds, yellows, and other hot colors are rare in this garden, used only as accents and focal points. Calming colors dominate--the whites of columns and windows, the browns of bark and pine straw, and the greens of moss and foliage. One source of green stands out--boxwoods. Counting those in the ground and those in pots, Susanne grows more than 700. She likes them because they give year-round color and structure, need little pruning, and are true survivors. “I like plants you only have to plant once,” she says.
