* Recipe: French Market Meat Loaf A hearty dish such as this calls for an equally full-bodied wine. Enter the varietals Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Each one of these players will complement the recipe's rich sauce and hearty slices of meat loaf, and provide the perfect pairing as the weather outside gets a little bit cooler. As you head to your local wine store or market, remember Syrah is one of the classic red grapes of France's Rhône Valley. Although French wines are labeled by place name, rather than by grape type (a.k.a varietal), generally speaking, a red wine from the Rhône Valley will more than likely contain a good bit of Syrah (Grenache and Mourvèdre being the other major red-wine producing grapes in the Rhône Valley).
