* Recipe: Braised Short Ribs A hearty dish such as this calls for an equally full-bodied wine. Enter the varietals Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Each one of these players will complement the recipe's rich sauce and meaty short ribs, and provide the perfect paring as the weather outside gets a little bit cooler. As you head to your local wine store or market, remember Syrah is one of the classic red grapes of France's Rhône Valley. Although French wines are labeled by place name, rather than grape type (aka varietal), generally speaking, if you pick up a red wine from the Rhône Valley, it will more than likely contain a good bit of Syrah (Grenache and Mourvèdre being the other major red-wine producing grapes in the Rhône Valley).
