Black Walnuts
These have a stronger, nuttier flavor than their better-known counterpart, the traditional, or English, walnut. Their distinctive taste lends punch to confections, baked goods, and more. Black walnuts are an essential source of omega-3 fats, which help lower cholesterol, aid in brain function, and promote anti-inflammatory benefits for arthritis, asthma, and eczema. Because black walnuts have a high fat content, they tend to go rancid if not stored properly. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for a year, or freeze for two.
